Growth & Short Stature Care

Growth concerns are best assessed using serial height measurements, growth velocity, family height pattern and a growth chart. A pediatric endocrine review is useful when height is very low for age, growth velocity is slowing, or the child is crossing percentiles downward.

Parent-Friendly Overview

Common reasons include constitutional delay, familial short stature, thyroid disease, undernutrition/chronic illness, growth hormone deficiency and genetic/syndromic causes. Treatment depends on the cause, not on height alone.

This page is for awareness only and does not replace consultation. Exact evaluation depends on age, growth chart, examination and reports.

When to seek advice

  • Height much below classmates or expected family height
  • Slow growth over 6–12 months
  • Crossing growth percentiles downward
  • Delayed or absent puberty with poor growth
